The
CDM – Centro Didattico Musicale
A presentation
The CDM (Centre
for Music Didactics) was founded in 1993 as a private cultural association.
Since 1999 the
CDM is lead by Valentina
Iadeluca, Andrea
Sangiorgio and Marco Iadeluca
The
mission of the CDM
- To create a milieu where music is a means of expression, communication,
social aggregation, creativity, self-actualization and holistic well-being.
- To develop our research center and to be a reference model for music
education applied to the world of children and adolescents, producing
and disseminating new educational ideas, procedures and materials, in
Italy as well as abroad.
- To develop a working environment which nurtures professional as well
as human growth.
- To be a cultural enterprise inspired by the highest standards.
The activities of the CDM
- In our two venues in the north of Rome we teach various instruments
individually and in groups. We especially value learning music in groups
and over the years have developed many ideas regarding music, voice and
movement, the use of Orff instruments, improvisation, composition and
social learning through the arts. We have recently opened a dance section
for children and adolescents
- We work as external experts in many government schools, especially
nursery and primary schools, where no specialized music teachers are used.
We collaborate with the class teachers. Our research focuses on the interdisciplinary
themes and activities that music education can offer as an enhancement
of the school curriculum.
- We are very active in the field of teacher training: in the last ten
years we have offered many courses for class and music teachers in Italy
and abroad. Our main concern is to offer to teachers feasible, interesting
and original materials that we have created and tested through our work
with children as well as a certain way of conceiving music education and
a structured methodological approach to teaching. The CDM organizes the
teacher training course "Elemental music and dance education according
to the Orff-Schulwerk Approach". We collaborate with the University
of Rome "Tor Vergata" and have received in 2006 the official
recognition as an educational agency for school teachers from the Ministry of Education.
- From 1999 to April 2010, on behalf of the Commune of Rome, the CDM has realized
the project “Children in the Centre”, a system of educational services
in music and play area for disabled and socially disadvantaged children conceived and directed by Valentina Iadeluca.
- Every year the CDM organizes performances and concerts with students,
children, adolescents and adults. Among the greatest achievements, besides
the many events realized in Italy, are the concerts presented by percussion
and Orff-instruments groups during the XXV World Conference for Music
Education ISME 2002, Bergen, Norway, the XXVI World Conference for Music
Education ISME 2004, Tenerife, Spain, and recently, the Symposium Orff-Schulwerk
2006, Salzburg, Austria.
- In July 2008 CDM has hosted in Rome the 11th Community Music Activity
International Seminar, within the works of the 28th ISME World Conference
in Italy.
Within the works of the Commission the CDM has successfully presented its experience with the project Bambini al Centro.
- The CDM is a member of SIEM,
the Italian Society for Music Education, and is in close contact with
ISME (International
Society for Music Education).
